Poker is a card game of skill and chance, played by two or more players and in which the best five-card hand wins. It is a very addicting and fun game. The game has a number of different variations, but all share the same basic rules. It is played in private homes, in clubs and on the Internet.<\/p>\n
In addition to the cards in a player’s hand, he or she may also have in his or her possession one or more “community” cards. A community card is a common card that everyone at the table has and can use. It can be used in the formation of a straight, flush, or a full house (three of a kind plus a pair).<\/p>\n
A standard poker hand consists of five cards. The value of a hand is determined by its relative probability: a high hand is worth more than a low one, and a pair is worth more than single cards of the same rank. Ties are broken by comparing the rank of the highest unmatched cards or secondary pairs in a full house.<\/p>\n
During betting intervals, players place chips (representing money) in the pot when it is their turn to do so. Each player must place in the pot at least the amount of chips placed in it by the player before him, or else pass. During a showdown, the players reveal their hands and the winner takes the pot. By mutual agreement, a fund called the kitty is usually established to pay for new decks of cards and food and drink.
