The early history of poker is somewhat murky and it seems that the game may have been introduced into English society by General Schenck during a weekend retreat at Somerset country home in the summer of 1872. Before that, there are reports of several other games, including Belle, Flux & Trente-un (French, 17th – 18th centuries), Post & Pair (English and French, 19th century), Brag (French, 17th – 19th centuries), and Bouillotte (French, late 18th – 19th centuries).
