Poker is a card game with a wide variety of variants. It is typically played by a group of players around a table. A standard deck of 52 cards is used, although some games use multiple packs or add jokers. Cards have ranks of Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10 through Ace, in ascending order; no suit is considered higher than another. A standard poker hand comprises five cards; the highest ranked hand wins the pot. Ties are broken by the highest unmatched cards, or secondary pairs (in a four of a kind).<\/p>\n
A player’s personal cards are known as their hole cards. They are kept hidden from the other players until the end of the betting round, at which time they may be revealed. A player’s hole cards are combined with the community cards to form their final poker hand.<\/p>\n
Depending on the rules of the particular game, some or all of the community cards are revealed in one betting round, called the flop. During this phase, a player’s pocket cards can be improved by the addition of the community cards.<\/p>\n
Players may also bluff by pretending to have the best hand, in which case other players must decide whether to call or fold. This is a key element of the game’s strategy, and it is often possible to win big money by bluffing.
