The Basics of Poker

Poker is a card game in which players make bets using their cards. The best hands win the pot. Once the betting has ended, the hands are turned over face up. Players are usually dealt two cards. A pair of kings is considered a good hand and is not a bad deal. The dealer is not usually a player in the game.

The game is played with a 52-card English deck. Two different back colours are used, and a wild card is one that can supplement any other card.

In some games, the betting is “capped” after three raises. In other games, a player must match the open bet or raise if they want to stay in the game. Otherwise, they risk losing the chance to win the hand.
